Everglades Day | April 7, 2018
The Everglades once covered 8 million acres of the lower Florida peninsula. Today, parts of these wetlands can still be found in Palm Beach County. With the goal of sharing not only the history of this unique ecosystem but also highlighting its importance to all Florida residents, the HSPBC presents The Swamp: An Everglades Day Event.
See exhibits and displays on the front lawn of the Johnson History Museum by the likes of PBC Parks and Recreation, Grassy Waters Everglades Preserve, Mounts Botanical Gardens, Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, and others! This portion of the event and admission to the Johnson History Museum are FREE.
End the afternoon with informative lectures on the history of the Everglades in Palm Beach County. Speakers include Karen Marcus, founder of Sustainable PBC and former Palm Beach County Commissioner; John Scott Hundley of Hundley Farms, Inc; Nathaniel Reed, Chairman of the Commission on Florida’s Environmental Future and Vice Chairman of the Everglades Foundation; and featured lecturer, renowned author Michael Grunwald.
A Lecture Pass for $50 covers all lectures. The VIP Experience is $100 and includes guaranteed seating for all lectures, one copy of The Swamp: The Everglades, Florida, and the Politics of Paradise by Michael Grunwald, and admission to a private book signing and reception following the lectures.
